Most students want to make money. On the other hand, there are plenty of working adults who would love to study. The question that arises to both groups is: how to balance studies with work.
Studying part-timers can learn a few simple rules that will make their life more comfortable.
1. Your boss should be informed about your schedule.
Most employers used to work part-time when they were students. This situation is normal and most managers are tolerant and understanding enough. Talk to your boss and let the person know that you have a schedule. Explain how important it is for you to achieve your goals. The fact that it might positively influence your career and make you even a better worker will definitely help you in this case. It is great if your manager is a flexible person who is ready to listen and support you. If you see that your supervisors make your life even more complicated, then consider a new job. After all, your future life is more important.
2. Do not rush when you begin.
Your start should be slow. Even if you are majoring in a subject that is closely related to your current position, let your beginning be slow. Do your best both at school and work, but do not take on too many responsibilities and duties. You need some time to understand whether your working hours agree with your studying time and personal life. Do not make empty promises. Surprise people with your abilities without informing them what you can do and how good you are at what you are doing. Balancing personal life, work and college is a challenging task and you’ll need persistence and patience to succeed. Time management is very important. Split your time between the most important fields of your life.
