3. Ilha de Paquet?
The name belongs to a tiny island. It’s area is just a square kilometer. The spot is located in Guanabara Bay. To reach it, take a boat and in an hour you’ll reach your destination. In the beginning of the 19th century this place was a resort. Even Dom Jo?o VI (Portuguese Emperor) used to spend his summers there. Read a bit of history to find out more about Brazil and Portugal’s contacts in those times. Dom Jo?o VI preferred to stay in Solar del Rey. The palace is very interesting in its own way. Another plus of the area is that there are no cars. The best way to explore the island is by bike, horse or on foot. This peaceful and quiet spot is surrounded by tall palm trees. You should also tast the grilled fish from one of the numerous food stands – it is always fresh and delicious.
4. Passeio P?blico and Cinel?ndia
The Cinel?ndia district is a district in Rio. It’s also the city’s cultural and political center adjoined by the Passeio P?blico. The district displays stunning public buildings built in the beginning of the 20th century. The Academy of Letters is accommodated in Avenida Presidente Wilson. The structure that is modeled on the Petit Trianon at Versailles was given to Rio by the French government in 1923. It used to house a society of poets and writers. The key mission of the society is to preserve the Brazilian Portuguese language. Their other purpose is to promote Brazilian literature.
