Quitting old habits involves a few stages. Before you manage to build new behavior, you’ll need to go through a special phase which you cannot avoid. Stay dedicated, determined and patient and you will soon be a different person.
1. Precontemplation
The real change may be half a year away. However, there is a stage that is called ‘precontemplation’. This is the time when you start realizing that you need to be a different person, but there are no definite plans yet. Some people may disagree with the need to change. Other people feel discouraged since they may have failed quite a few times in the past and now they are unwilling to re-start their battle all over again. Seek motivation and encourage yourself in all ways possible. Do not forget what mistakes you made in the past and your next attempt will be more successful.
2. Contemplation
This is the phase when the person starts understanding the benefits that the change might bring. You think of the advantages and begin to realize their importance. You also feel that if you alter your behavior, your life will look different. This stage may last for as long as one year.
